Claims Procedure


The claims process involves a series of simple steps:

  1. Note is taken of any losses or damages when goods are delivered and recorded on the original bill of lading. If there is not enough time to validate a clean bill or, if there is no qualified representative present at the time that the bill is signed, a note must be recorded on the bill that a "clean bill has yet to be verified."

  2. A Damage at Delivery form is provided by Office Move Direct to be filled out by a representative of the owner of the damaged or missing inventory.

  3. Within 7 days of date of delivery, a Damage at Delivery form is filled out and submitted to:

  4. Office Move Direct arranges for a site visit to inspect and validate the loss or damage.

  5. The Office Move Direct claims inspection representative validates the authenticity of the claim on site and removes validated damaged items.

  6. In the next step Office Move Direct repairs or replaces your lost or damaged items up to their full, declared, value without regard to depreciation, less the applicable deductible or, provides monetary compensation for the lost or damaged items up to their full, declared, value, without regard to depreciation, less the applicable deducible.
Mechanical and Electrical Function Claims

In order for a MEF claim to be valid, note must be taken of any mechanical or electrical malfunction at arrival. If there is no means of powering up the items under MEF coverage, note must be taken and an Office Move Direct representative must be given the opportunity to be present during the power up.

Estimated weight of articles and shipments

As Office Move Direct provides local relocation services, trucks are not usually driven through scales. The weight of each shipment and article is therefore derived from the estimated cubic footage and the weight of the article is, for purposes of coverage, deemed to be 6lbs per cubic foot. A 1,200 cubic foot shipment (5-ton truck load) would be recorded as 7,200 pounds. At this rate a missing shipment would be valued at $4,300.00 (under Standard Coverage) and $10,800.00 (under Declared Value Coverage).
